Why Move to Denmark?

Stress-Free Removals to One of the World’s Happiest Countries

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in a country consistently ranked among the top 3 happiest in the world? Denmark, situated in Scandinavia, is considered second only to Finland as the world’s happiest country, and for good reason. From its exceptional quality of life to its strong sense of community, Denmark offers a unique blend of happiness, prosperity, and social well-being that intrigues individuals and families alike.

Why is Denmark so Happy?

Denmark’s reign as one of the world’s happiest countries is no fluke. Its citizens consistently report high levels of satisfaction with their lives, scoring an average of 7.5 on a scale of 1 to 10, surpassing the OECD average of 6.7. This remarkable response stems from a multitude of factors, including Denmark’s exceptional healthcare system, high levels of education, and a robust social safety net.

But happiness is not just about individual well-being; it’s also about the strength of a community. Denmark fosters a deep sense of camaraderie and trust among its citizens. When asked, an astounding 95% of Danes reported knowing someone they could rely on in times of need, exceeding the global average of 91%. This unwavering support system forms the bedrock of Danish society, contributing significantly to the nation’s overall happiness.

A Thriving Society

Denmark’s happiness is not merely a fleeting feeling; it is deeply rooted in its economic prosperity. The country boasts an average net-adjusted disposable income of £26,701.87 per capita, ensuring a high standard of living for its citizens. This financial stability allows Danes to enjoy the finer things in life without sacrificing their well-being.

About Schepens Removals – Your Gateway to Denmark

Having assisted countless families in their removals to Denmark, we’ve gained valuable insights into the factors that make the country so captivating. Our clients, now settled in Copenhagen and across the country, have shared with us their reasons for embracing the Danish way of life, and their stories paint a compelling picture of a society that prioritises happiness, well-being, and community.

Everyone Speaks English

“This was a bit of a game-changer for us. We found that we were able to make friends easily, and our children felt at home immediately. They are now proficient Danish speakers whilst we have a good smattering, about the same as our German and French! There are professions where you need to speak Danish, but for the most part, English is accepted everywhere.”

Cycling Has Changed My Life

“In Denmark you can cycle everywhere. I hadn’t cycled as an adult when I first moved here, but now I’m an absolute convert. You can get pretty much anywhere in the city in around 30 minutes, but I also love cycling with my partner outside the city on the weekends. My passion is fuelled by the fact that the cycling paths are amazing here, which makes the bike the common-sense option – otherwise I’d never have got started!”

I Like The Danish Attitude to Work

“Why move to Denmark? Because work is meaningful and enjoyable – it also knows its place. I felt right from the start that I had a voice with the company I was working for. And I was treated with respect by everyone. I’m given a good deal of responsibility and trusted to deliver. If I don’t (rare, but it happens to us all) I’m supported rather than punished. The Danes have got work right I think.”

I Have More Time for my Family

“In a lot of European countries, you can struggle to spend quality time with your family, especially if you move around a lot. In Denmark you are actually expected to spend time with family. We get 5 weeks holiday each year – easily the most I’ve ever enjoyed. And I work at home for half the week to ensure that I can pick my kids up from school on those days!”

Navigating the Nuances of Danish Life: Embracing Challenges, Finding Solutions

While Denmark consistently ranks among the happiest and most liveable countries in the world, adapting to its unique culture and lifestyle can present its own set of challenges. Moving to a new country, especially one with a distinct cultural identity, inevitably involves adjustments and a willingness to embrace new experiences. Here’s a closer look at some of the common challenges faced by newcomers to Denmark, along with practical solutions to help you overcome them:

1. Braving the Danish Weather

The Danish climate is often described as unpredictable, with long, cold winters and short, cool summers. The weather can be a significant adjustment for those accustomed to warmer climates. However, Danes have mastered the art of embracing the elements, making the most of each season.

Solution: Embrace Hygge

Hygge, the Danish concept of coziness and comfort, is a perfect antidote to the chilly weather. Create a hygge-filled atmosphere in your home with candles, throws, and soft lighting. Gather friends and family for cozy evenings filled with laughter, conversation, and warm beverages.

2. Navigating the Danish Social Circle

Danes are known for their strong sense of community and close-knit social circles. Building friendships can take time and effort, as Danes tend to value long-standing connections over casual acquaintances.

Solution: Embrace the Language

Learning Danish, even at a basic level, can significantly enhance your social interactions and open doors to new friendships. Enrol in language classes or join conversation groups to practice your Danish skills.

3. Adapting to Shopping Habits

The Danish retail landscape may differ from what you’re accustomed to, especially in smaller towns. Finding specific brands or products from your home country may require some sleuthing.

Solution: Explore Local Recommendations

Seek tips from colleagues, neighbours, or fellow newbies on where to find specific items. Don’t hesitate to ask local shopkeepers for guidance. Embrace the opportunity to discover new products and flavours and expand your culinary horizons.
