Schepens Provides Wiltshire Removals and Storage

A story we hear a good deal from our movers is about moving out of London to seek a simpler, and more expansive way of life. Whilst choosing London for their home made sense to them in the early stages of their career, a decade or so on they feel the need to connect with a slower pace of life. Often this decision is aided by being able to work more from home, and/or the desire to start a family.

Knowing you want to leave London is one thing. Knowing where you want to move to is quite another. There are all kinds of unique criteria determining this choice, but the desire to retain efficient transport links with the capital is important for most people. This makes Wiltshire one of the prime locations that London professionals consider when moving from London.

5 Towns to Consider if You’re Moving to Wiltshire

Wiltshire is a county of great diversity, so there’s a whole range of options for movers to choose from. Here are the best places to live in Wiltshire as far as our movers are concerned:

1. Salisbury

This is, of course, the superstar when it comes to Wiltshire towns to move to. It’s only 95 minutes from London by train, and there are – on average – 34 trains each weekday. There’s the cathedral, of course, but this is also a bustling contemporary city which is kept lively by the huge numbers of tourists that visit every year.

2. Bradford-on-Avon

This is definitely a town for movers who can work from home.  There’s only 4 trains each day and the journey time averages 2 hours and 8 minutes to London. Having said that, this glorious town is so bursting with life and character that it’s still a popular choice. It’s often likened to nearby Bath – without the tourists.

3. Malmesbury

If you’re a keen hiker or rambler, Malmesbury has to be on your list. It’s a great place to explore the River Avon and the stunning Cotswolds countryside. The town itself is home to a glorious 12th century abbey, and a host of independent businesses and retailers. You’ll need a car to make the journey to and from London from Malmesbury, though.

4. Marlborough

It takes just 68 minutes, on average to get from Marlborough to London Paddington. This busy market town is located in the north-east of Wiltshire and it’s an ideal location for professionals who maybe need to be in London a couple of times a week. It’s a good looking town with plenty going on, two markets a week, and a High Street with a great mix of shops and restaurants.

5. Swindon

For movers who want an urban experience outside the pressure cooker environment of London, Swindon’s worth looking at. The fastest trains take just 34 minutes to London, and there’s 99 trains per day. Originally Swindon was a market town,  but it expanded enormously in the Victorian period. It’s now a busy, modern town surrounded by the beautiful Wiltshire countryside.
