Hamburg has hit the top ten for the most liveable cities in the world – twice – over the past decade. Situated in the north of Germany, the city scored 100% on its infrastructure, and healthcare, and above 90% on arts, culture, stability and education. It’s a city of contrasts, at once one of the most affluent German cities, whilst also being home to the Reeperbahn, the country’s most infamous red light district, near the docks.

Around 4,000 expats live in Hamburg, enjoying the strong Anglo-German links that Hamburg maintains. It was occupied by UK troops at the end of the World War Two, and the relationship has flourished in the intervening years. There is – would you believe – a society of Scottish Country Dancers of Hamburg, and a Hamburger Cricket Society.
