Should I Move to New Zealand?

According to a recent Gallup poll, New Zealand was the place most people asked thought about moving to. Its natural beauty has become well known to global audiences of The Lord of the Rings movies and the open-minded, easy-going culture is hugely attractive to people looking for a life with well-being at its core.

The Schepens team has provided removals to New Zealand for numerous movers over the decades. We’ve supported families looking for a better life, professionals moving for work, and New Zealanders returning home. Many of them now consider themselves long-term residents. So we asked them what response they would give to the question: Should I Move to New Zealand?

1. Your Kids Will Thrive Here

Lots of New Zealanders living in the UK or Europe come back home the minute they have children. Which tells you what you need to know. We live just outside Auckland and we’ve seen our kids benefit immensely from living in NZ. Their state school is great; good teacher/student ratio and excellent support for pupils. And they’re out in the fresh air whenever they’re not at school, mostly on the beach.

2. NZ is Great but it’s a Long Way From Home

I wouldn’t trade my life in New Zealand for the world; I love it here. But I dread the 24 hour journeys to get back home. We can only afford to do it maybe once a year, which means we’ve missed loads of important family stuff. We talk online a lot but it’s not the same as being there and my parents won’t do the journey so they haven’t seen our home here.

3. Take a Look at My Weekend

I live in Auckland. Came over here to work and never went back. Met my partner here – helps! – and we both have good jobs. The cost of living is high, but with both of us working we’re able to live how we want. Last weekend we travelled just over an hour to a surf beach; we met friends, surfed, played tennis, had dinner together (great fish and chips), then we headed back home with a stop off along the way to gaze up at the stars. How was yours?

4. At Home in Windy Wellington

I live in a wooden house in Wellington, with the constant fear that it will either be blown down or crumple in an earthquake. New Zealand life looks idyllic, but it has its drawbacks. I came out with someone who has now returned to France, but I’m not ready to go back to the UK yet. When I think about it I can’t bear the thought of cramped cities and the workaholic culture. New Zealand is growing on me every day – it’s starting to feel like home.

There’s nothing ‘standard’ about moving to New Zealand, which is why we treat each client and their move as unique. You’ll be assigned a move co-ordinator who will work with you on the creation of a bespoke removals plan. Once complete, this will form the basis of your free, no obligation removals quote.

Schepens removals services include:

  • Professional Packing Service. Lets our industry trained packers take the strain. They use eco-friendly packaging, label every box, and create a detailed shipping inventory as they go.
  • Insurance. Your goods will be covered whilst in transit. Many of our international movers take out additional Extended Liability, or Accidental Damage cover.
  • Specialist Removals. OK, so it’s not likely that you’ll be moving a piano to Auckland, but it has happened so we have a team to handle it. We’ll also create bespoke packaging, handling and shipping for any antiques or artworks you want to take with you.
  • Self Storage. Need UK storage whilst you’re away? Schepens has a number of secure, local storage facilities where your goods can be kept in a clean, dry environment.
  • Transport. Your goods will be transported in one of our state-of-the-art removals vehicles which run on air ride suspension and boast an adjustable bearing system, ensuring little or no movement of vehicle content.

Customer Service That Cares About Customers

“Customer service was unbelievably good, efficient and effective. The drivers were brilliant, on time helpful and able to help with anything I needed. It was my first international move in many years, and I am unlikely to move again, but I can certainly recommend them without doubt to family and friends!”
