Choosing Where to Live in the UK

Of course, everyone knows about London, but there’s so many other great locations to settle in the UK – and they don’t always get the attention they deserve. So here’s a selection of exciting urban centres which give a different perspective on the British:

1.London:

London is the home to some of the most famous and iconic attractions in the world – from Big-Ben to the red telephone box, to black cabs and Tate Modern. But it’s so much more than that. For history lovers there’s remnants from the Roman, Tudor, Stuart and Victorian Period scattered across the city. London’s also a hub for innovative and creative restaurants. British food was once something of a joke, but we’ve now embraced the best of the world’s cuisine.

As a global city, London attracts visitors and residents from far and wide, which is what makes it so diverse. You’ll never get stuck for entertainment, leisure and exciting events – whatever your tastes. Aside form the usual attractions like museums and galleries, London also has many pop-up restaurants, weekend festivals and celebrations for any event including cocktails to afternoon tea.

2.Manchester:

Manchester, located in the north west of the UK, is home to two of the biggest clubs in world football – Manchester United and Manchester City. Quite apart from the football, though, its energetic culture and lively atmosphere makes it a great place to visit and to live. Some of the music scene’s greatest artists and bands have hailed from this city, including The Stone Roses, The Smiths and Oasis. It’s often referred as one of the UK’s liveliest, youthful and most diverse cities. Whether you’re in search of a gourmet dinner, exclusive wine bar, traditional ale pub, great music, art, or a place to dance endlessly into the night – its all here.

3.Cambridge:

Home to one of the top universities in the country, Cambridge is a city comprising stunning architecture, a fascinating history and plenty of green spaces. The river Cam trails through its centre, past old colleges and lawns; under willows and bridges. Navigating on a flat-bottomed boat known as a punt is the height of relaxing in the Spring and Summer months. According to the annual survey by Glassdoor, Cambridge is one of the best places to live and work in the UK. Additionally, it’s also within easy commuting distance to London; the fast train to Kings Cross takes about 50 minutes.

4.Brighton:

Brighton is known affectionately as ‘London by the Sea’ and it’s one of the UK’s most iconic cities with a unique cultural heritage. The city has a bustling atmosphere and each year plays host to countless festivals; including Brighton Fringe , The Great Escape and Brighton Pride. For those in search of an outdoors lifestyle, Brighton is located between the ocean and the beautiful South Downs National Park. The city is also popular for its wide range of vibrant, independent shops, quirky cafes and excellent restaurants. The are four cinemas; including the countries oldest operating cinema, the Duke of York’s Picture House, which opened all the way back in  1910.
