Schepens are Movers in Winchester

Another year, another ‘Happiness Index’ under its belt! This year, Winchester came top in the Royal Mail Happiness Index. It’s topped the Sunday Times ‘Best Places to Live’ index a number of times and it’s easy to see why. Winchester is one of those cities you fall in love with at first sight. It’s easy to walk from end to end, the streets still follow the Saxon layout, giving it a pleasingly higgledy-piggledy structure, and everywhere you look there’s signs of a prospering community.

But what’s it like to live in Winchester? Schepens is a Winchester removals company, and we’ve been moving clients there for over 100 years now! We often get to hear how families are getting on, a few months down the line. We thought we’d share the comments that come up most regularly.

1. It’s Small, But Nicely So

Many of our clients have moved to Winchester from London, and they love the fact that they can walk everywhere. The water meadows provide some great strolls and they’re minutes from the city centre. Despite the compact nature of the city, however, it still feels like somewhere big – which is probably to do with the massive cathedral. And the thousands of tourists that visit from every corner of the world.

2. Great for Coffee Shops

Winchester would certainly win a prize for the concentration of coffee shops it achieves within the city centre. And these aren’t all the standard High St brands. There’s coffee, tea and cakes to suit every single palette and purse – many of them operating as independents. This supports the community feel of living in Winchester, and certainly enhances your quality of life!

3. It’s Commutable

It takes just an hour to get into Waterloo. There are, on average, 76 trains each day and it’s a well managed line. Southampton’s also easy to get to by train, and it’s just a 20 minute journey on average. If you’re planning to drive, it takes around an hour to get to the M25 via the M3, and conditions are always unpredictable – the train’s the best bet by far.

4. Get a House With Parking

One of the downsides of living in a compact city is the fact that parking can get very tight – and in Winchester, it frequently does. We hear again and again that it’s worth finding a house with plenty of parking. So when friends or family come to stay, they’re not constantly moving their car, or worrying that they need to top up the meter.

5. It’s A University City

Attitudes are divided on this, but on the whole we hear that an annual influx of students stops Winchester stagnating. The University of Winchester ensures that the city maintains a vibrant, youthful perspective, and their tastes shape some of the independent shops. They’re also the reason why there are so many arts and music festivals throughout the year, across the city.

Schepens is a Local Winchester Removals Company

We love the city of Winchester, and ever since our arrival in the UK over a century ago, we’ve been providing local removals. We’re a 4th generation family business that has put down roots in Hampshire. Since our earliest days, our aim has been to minimise the stresses that can be caused by the moving process. We want our clients to arrive in the UK’s happiest city relaxed, and feeling in control.

Tailored Moving to Winchester

At one end of the spectrum, we’ve moved a grand piano into a house with a tiny frontage at the heart of Winchester. At the other end, we’ve moved families into homes twice the size of what they could afford in London, and left them wondering what they’d do with all the space! We know from experience that every move is unique. That’s why we create tailored packages for every single client, based on their specific requirements.

We offer a range of services, which include:

  • Professional Packers. Our BAR trained removals teams can pack up your home, label your boxes, and create a detailed inventory of your goods.
  • Insurance. All your goods are insured in transit. Should your require additional peace of mind, we can arrange Accidental Damage, and Extended Liability cover.
  • Non-Standard Goods. However valuable, and/or fragile, the item you wish to move, we’re specialists in providing bespoke packaging, handling and transport.
  • Self Storage. Should you require storage for furniture, sports items, or anything you can’t fit in your home, Schepens has local storage facilities. We offer a door-to-door service, and a secure, climate-controlled environment.
  • Transport. Your goods will be shipped in one of our state-of-the-art removals vehicles which maintain a constant temperature and humidity, run on air ride suspension and boast an adjustable bearing system, which ensures little or no movement of vehicle content.

Local Knowledge and Great Customer Service

Our removals teams are recruited locally, and know Winchester well. They can advise you on the best time of day to move, the roads to avoid during the ‘school run’, and any local traffic issues. Most important, they’ll make sure that there’s ample parking outside your new home for the time you need it. We want your first day in Winchester to be a happy one!

We provide our services throughout the whole of Winchester including: Stockbridge, Wanston, Andover, King’s Worthy, Eastleigh, Chandler’s Ford, Southampton, Petersfield, Bishop’s Waltham plus many more.
