Where to Live in Copenhagen | Copenhagen Removals
Why Move to Copenhagen?
Many of Schepens’ movers ‘discover’ Copenhagen through work opportunities and, having experienced life in the capital, decide they want to live there. And there’s a good reason for that. The World Bank considers Denmark the top business environment in Europe, and the country is fourth in the world for ‘ease of doing business’. Copenhagen is a thriving, international city known for being the ‘start-up’ capital, and home to many of the world’s leading businesses.
For over a century now, Denmark has been a popular location for our movers. Many of them start out on a short work contract, find it’s extended, and finally decide to make their home there. Some of our Denmark removals settle for good. So, we asked 4 movers, now living in Denmark’s capital, why move to Copenhagen?
1. A New Culture Wakes You Up
“Denmark was my first experience of working overseas, and I found a whole new me as a result of my move to Copenhagen. I couldn’t speak Danish – I started learning pretty quick – which meant I had to be more alert, and proactive. Making friends took a while, but I never felt lonely; there was too much to discover, learn and find out about. Don’t know if it’s Denmark for ever, but I love it right now.”
2. Northern Europe is Stunning
“I’d worked in the US, but never in Europe before I came here. I had holidayed in Europe, but always chasing the sun. I really had no idea how stunning Scandinavia is. Denmark has some of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen – shame about the temperatures! Then Sweden is just a drive away, as is Germany. Copenhagen is full of people from across the globe; it feels like an international city.”
3. Great Work Culture
“OK, so it sounds boring to talk about work – but it’s really the reason I moved here in the end. I’m a mom who wants a career. In Denmark, that’s a given, and the work culture supports you every step of the way. There’s great childcare – from 6 months up – and I’ve arranged my work so I can drop the kids off at school each day. Best of all – I NEVER get asked to do overtime at the weekends.”
4. Copenhagen is a Great City
“I’d never have dreamt of taking a dip in the Thames after work but here, plenty of people do just that – in the Brigge harbour baths. (Earlier in the year people just jumped straight into the harbour to cool off, but there’s now a fine if you do that!) Another thing I never did in London was bike to work. In Copenhagen I bike everywhere – because it’s safe to do so!”
