Living in Hampshire

If working from home is providing an opportunity for you to consider moving outside London, Hampshire may very well be on your wish list. It’s much admired for its combination of verdant countryside, glorious coastal stretches and a shortish train ride to London. There’s a great variety of towns, cities and villages to choose from, making living in Hampshire a tempting choice.

Schepens is a local Hampshire removals company, and we’ve been helping families transition from London life to country living for over a century now. There are many things we could say about living in this beautiful county, but we’ve decided to leave it to movers who are now settled here. Each one in now living in a different Hampshire town, or city.

1. Winchester Has it All

I wake up every morning and think two things. First; is it possible I moved to somewhere to amazing? Second; why did I leave it so long? Winchester is small, but perfect. And it’s a city, so there’s great brands on the High Street but two minutes away there’s the Water Meadows and St Catherine’s Hill. My two children are settled in good schools and loving their new lives – horse-riding, need I say more?

2. Southampton by the Sea

Glad I’m not commuting to and from London, as traffic can be bad in out out of Southampton. Rail connections are good. Easy to get to the Isle of Wight. Life’s busier now than it was in London, if you can believe it. It’ll probably wear off, but there’s so much to see and do at the moment. Students can be a pain, but they keep the city alive. No regrets.

3. Basingstoke

People always go ‘you moved out of London to Basingstoke?!’ but it’s worked out great for us. My mum lives nearby and my partner can get into London in just over an hour. Basingstoke isn’t the most exciting city in the world, but it’s got everything we need. Best of all, we’ve got a house we could only have dreamt of in London. And if we want to get to the more picturesque bits of Hampshire, they’re on our doorstep.

4. Romsey – If You Don’t Need to Commute

If you’re looking to move from London to Hampshire, Romsey shows you mean it. It’s quite a trek to get to Waterloo from here, but we’re not missing it so far. We love living in a market town – it feels human-sized. There’s great places to eat and a number of independents as well as the shops you’d expect. You get to recognise people quite quickly, and that leads to nods and intros – none of which seemed to happen much in London.
