Living in Basingstoke

What’s it Like Living in Basingstoke?

It’s just an hour from London by train and surrounded by some of the prettiest villages in Hampshire. No wonder Basingstoke is on the radar of Londoners wanting to escape the city! It’s also earned itself the nickname ‘Boringstoke’ over the years. So, is it? We asked 4 of our movers who’re still living there what it’s like living in Basingstoke.

1. Great City – With the Oddest Statue Ever

There’s not many things that Basingstoke is famous for; the phallic statue in the middle of town seems to be the exception! Despite that, it’s not a bad place to live. Great for getting to and from London, though station parking can be a problem, and there’s plenty of shops, cinemas, restaurants. No complaints.

2. We Love Living in Basingstoke

After 4 years living here my partner and I still think this is one of the best places we’ve ever lived. Going out is easy, and there’s plenty to do. Festival Place has had a bit of a facelift and it looks really smart now. It’s really easy to get out into the countryside and there’s load of walks and cycle tracks if that’s what you like. No plans to move!

3. It’s Nice But Not Distinctive

Basingstoke was rapidly developed back in the 60s to cope with the overspill from London, and the lack of planning back then is the legacy we live we now. It’s a really nice town but there’s no real sense of history, or character, so it’s hard to think of things you like about it. Not a place to visit, but definitely somewhere to consider living if you like Hampshire.

4. Great Base For Exploring

I moved here a couple of years ago, so everything’s been in lockdown for quite a bit of the period I’ve been living here. It’s made the last few months quite exciting as I’ve finally got to walk around the town centre and enjoy Festival Place. I love taking off at the weekend to see new places and Basingstoke is a great base for exploring Oxford, Portsmouth, Winchester, Southampton etc.

“The entire team are very efficient and friendly. We received excellent service, advice and support all the way through the moving process. They did not cut corners and factored in generous time parameters to allow for any issues (of which there were none). The crew who were actually loading and unloading were great, and very careful. Not a single damaged item!”
