Schepens Can Help With Your International Move to Canada

Canada is the world’s second largest country by surface (after Russia) yet relatively small in terms of population. When Brits consider an international move with Schepens, Canada is always high on the list. There’s plenty of reasons to move to Canada. From universal politeness, to stunning landscapes, wildlife and nature to thriving, high-tech cities.

Canada’s climate is characterised by diversity. In Vancouver alone, you can be sunbathing on Kitsilano Beach in the morning, and skiing on Cypress Mountain in the afternoon! Through blistering cold winters to humid, muggy summers – torrential rain, blinding snowstorms, vicious tornados and periods of drought; Canadians experience some of the planets most diverse weather systems.

Canada is as tall as it is wide, creating a wide range of weather conditions dependent on the region:

Northern Canada:

Northern cities like Edmonton, Winnipeg and Regina suffer long, severe and bitterly cold winters, during which the thermometer can plunge to -40℃. If you’re considering living here, specialist outdoor winter clothing is an absolute must! Many of the large water masses, including the north seas and the main harbours – freeze completley in the depth of the winter months. With that said, if you head further south in the region, the winters are actually warmer than central Canada – particularly when the ocean waters do not freeze.

Eastern Canada:

Eastern Canada  is home to the counties major cities such as Toronto; which has a semi-continental climate, characterised with a warm, humid summer and a cold winter. The waters in the lake ensure the eastern region is warmer in the summer and cooler in the winter than it would otherwise be. Although Toronto is one of Canada’s warmer cities in the winter, they can still be severe for an unacclimatised expat. Snowfall is very common. Ottawa, for instance, gets around 1cm of snow on around 120 days of the year.

Southern Canada:

In the south western region of Quebec, winters are cold – often freezing. It’s characterised by an alternation of dry, sunny days and periods dry cold weather with regular snowfall. Spring comes to Montreal particularly late and is very cool, whilst summer (which doesn’t last for long) comprises rainy and cool days, during which thunderstorms are common later in the afternoon.

Western Canada:

The west cost is home to a beautiful climate, which explains why Vancouver, the largest city in British Columbia, was voted in the top 3 best places to live in the world. The desirable location in Canada means its possible to ski in the winter and swim in the summer! Its summer months are typically dry, often resulting mild drought conditions. Vancouver is the place to be for a warmer climate, the city has the fewest days below freezing in Canada.
