Fine Art Requires a Specialist Mover
Fine art is highly vulnerable when taken out of its protected environment. Even new artwork must be protected with high-quality packing materials and protected during transportation. Schepens follows a very specific process to protect items during fine art removals:
One of our move co-ordinators will meet with you to discuss the removal. They will ask for information regarding:
- Your preferred removal date and arrival window.
- Details of the destination.
- Preferred transport options — international air freight, international sea freight, international road freight or a combination of these methods.
- How many pieces of fine art you will be transporting.
- The type of fine art being transported (paintings, sculptures, textiles, photographs, for example).
- The attributes of each piece of art, including the size, weight, and materials.
- Any special precautions that must be taken in terms of security.
If you have any unusual pieces, special arrangements may be required before they can be moved. If you don’t know the size of your artworks, the move co-ordinator may have to measure them. If you require art storage, the move co-ordinator will discuss costs and the length of the storage.
The move co-ordinator will also discuss the available insurance plans and suggest an appropriate plan for fine art shipping. Valuation coverage is available for pieces of fine art or antiques that are of substantial value.
Schepens will provide you with a highly detailed quote that outlines the specific items being moved, the estimated delivery window and the total cost. Our removal quotes are 100% free and there are no hidden extras.
After you accept the quote, Schepens will begin preparing for fine art removals. This preparation includes gathering the appropriate packing materials, designing bespoke packaging, preparing crates, and scheduling the removal.
Typically, fine art or antiques are carefully packed and crated up a few days before the removal is scheduled to commence. In some cases, it may be crated up on the day of the move. Bespoke packaging provides maximum protection against vibration, shock, and impact. Custom built wooden crates are used for highly valuable or fragile pieces.
Your items are securely packed onto our state-of-the-art removals trucks. Depending on the destination and chosen transportation option, it may be transferred into a shipping container for sea or air transit.
Your dedicated move coordinator will keep you informed about the progress of the removal. Once your items arrive, the Schepens team carefully remove them from the crates. Our removers will then dispose of any packing materials.
If you have decided to store your fine art with Schepens, it will be placed in one of our secure storage facilities.
