Fine Art Requires a Specialist Mover
Fine art is highly vulnerable when taken out of a protected environment. Even if it is a new artwork it must be protected with high-quality packing materials and transported very carefully. Schepens follows a very specific process to protect your fine art during a removal:
The initial consultation
One of our move coordinators will meet with you to discuss the removal. They will ask for information regarding:
- Your preferred removal date and arrival window
- Details of the destination
- Preferred transport options — international air freight, international sea freight, international road freight or a combination of the these methods.
- How many pieces of fine art you will be transporting
- The type of fine art being transported (paintings, sculptures, photographs and so on)
- The attributes of each piece of art, including the size, weight and materials
- Special precautions that must be taken in terms of security
If you have any unusual pieces, special arrangements may be required before they can be moved. If you don’t know the size of your artworks, the move coordinator may have to measure them. If you require art storage, the move coordinator will discuss costs and the length of the storage.
The move coordinator will also discuss the available insurance plans and suggest an appropriate plan for fine art shipping. Valuation coverage is available for pieces of fine art that are of substantial value.
You will receive a detailed quote
Schepens will provide you with a highly detailed quote that outlines the specific items being moved, the estimated delivery window and the total cost. Our removal quotes are 100% free and there are no hidden extras.
The move is scheduled and preparations begin
After you accept the quote, Schepens will begin preparing for the move. This preparation includes gathering the appropriate packing materials, preparing crates, and scheduling the removal.
The move commences
Typically, your cargo will be crated up a few days before the removal is scheduled to commence. In some cases, it may be crated up on the day of the move. Each piece is carefully packed to provide maximum protection against vibration, shock and impact. We use custom built wooden crates for highly valuable or fragile pieces.
The cargo is then securely packed into our state-of-the-art removals trucks. Depending on the destination and chosen transportation option, it may be transferred into a shipping container for sea or air transit.
Your dedicated move coordinator will keep you informed about the progress of the removal. Once your cargo arrives, we will carefully remove it from the crates. Our removers will then dispose of any packing materials.
If you have decided to store your fine art with Schepens, it will be placed in one of our highly secure storage facilities. We use climate-controlled storage facilities to protect your valuable fine art.
